Montjuic

Four second full day I had a plan. To enjoy Montjuic, the big hill overlooking Barcelona, starting with the one art gallery we were to visit, the Museum of Catalonian Art and then climbing on up the hill, culminating in the castle at the top at sunset.

So down at the bottom is the old bullring, now a shopping centre

Then the climb up the steps top the museum. The cloudy day provided some dramatic looking lighting for some photos

The museum itself starts with early frescos from various churches. They are immaculately displayed, but in all honesty not the most exciting subject matter

The museum's central space is really impressive - just for its emptiness. There is little more luxurious than having space to waste!

Luka was particularly keen on the Spanish Civil War stuff. I had planned on taking him on a Civil War walking tour, but he decided the exhibits here had scratched that itch enough

Having filled our cultural boots at the gallery we went on up the hill to take in the 1992 Olympic Stadium, currently home of Barcelona FC

And finally on up to the castle.
Obviously by this stage the boys needed a little refueling in the castle courtyard

Needless to say when you get to the top of a hill you want to take in the views. Which are rather splendid here

The castle was being used for a temporary light exhibition which was surprisingly impressive.

We were intent on staying to enjoy the sunset, which was really cool.

We took the funicular railway down

My firm's more hip Barcelona office?😂

And once again the night finished with tapas
