Lisbon - rest of day one

So after visiting the castle we did a bit more wondering around/orientation. Chance for me to take more photos! One thing you will notice about Lisbon is that they like a good monument. And they are big. Also they love mosaic cobbles. Most noticeable in the squares but even on just ordinary "pavements".

One curious place we visited was the Casa do Alentejo. Nothing to notice on the outside, indeed we passed the entrance without noticing and had to double back. It is all about the interior. It was originally a seventeenth century mansion, decorated as a pseudo-Moorish palace. It is open to step into although nothing really there

I say nothing but there is actually a restaurant on the top floor. What it really should have had was a simple bar, as just a great place to sit and stare over the courtyard.

Below, believe it or not, is the station, at least the central station, Rossio. Love the entrance doors.

Statue of Dom Jose with  Arch of Rua Augusta behind it

The Se, the city cathedral, is a Romanesque building and in truth one of the less interesting of Lisbon's ecclesiastical buildings.
