Porto - arrival and the cathedral

So after about three hours in first class we arrived in Porto from Lisbon. A nice journey. Hauling our luggage to our apartment was less fun - Porto is almost as hilly as Lisbon.

Having settled in, we found the main market was nearby. This has restaurants above with mostly very delicious looking food stalls below. We did sample the wares later!

This isn't a palace, its the central station, Sao Bento

However, we were heading uphill for what I felt should be our first day's main sightseeing target - the cathedral. Partly because it is the cathedral, but partly because it is up the hill with views over the city. So a bit of an orientation spot.

The nicest part, in my opinion, are the cloisters.

St Pantaleao. A new saint on me. But apparently he gives us the word "pants", via pantaloons. every day is a school day. Wonderfully gay statue don't you think?

Good arty photo, eh?
