After our little orientation walk I decided to head north to show Eoin the Metropol Parasol, a very striking bit of modern architecture and quite a contrast to the basically Renaissance centre of the city. Eoin was suitably impressed. It is commonly referred to as Las Setas, the mushrooms, although Eoin insisted they were more like trees. And are indeed mostly wooden. Although we slightly questioned their description as Europe's largest wooden structure as it is essentially built around a steel frame
What I hadn't done on previous trips to the city is climb up to the viewing platforms, but corrected that omission, and glad we did
