Udawalawe National Park

So now we come to last day of safari. But before getting to the park we did a bit of watching a fisherman, local style. Someone not too worried about getting their feet wet.

But before we see wild elephants, we dropped in on an elephant transit home for injured or orphaned nellies before sending them out into the big wild world

Ok, now into Udawalawe Park. Speciality is elephants, so be prepared for a lot of elephant photos.

 Hosing themselves down

A serpent eagle

Kingfisher interlude...

 Back to the elephants

Baby carefully surrounded by the herd but you can see the little trunk at the back
Now, notice anything unusual about this fella? he has tusks. Tuskers are are amongst Asian elephants, which does of course protect them from ivory poachers

Not all elephants.

 But mostly.
This chap got a bit annoyed with us and started throwing dust over his back, apparently a sign of aggression. Wish drunken Glaswegians stuck to the same sign. But you don't really want to mess with an elephant even from the comfort of a jeep.
Sun setting so time to head home.
