Podere Fontecastello

While everywhere we stayed on this holiday was fine, by far the nicest place was also unfortunately the only one we stayed at for only one night. Staying two nights is obviously better when travelling as you can settle more and there is less packing and unpacking to do. But we only had one night on our schedule in Montepulciano. Thibault had found us an agriturismo just outside the town - essentially a farm that took paying guests. And it was just fantastic.

Quite an unprepossessing approach - it didn't seem very rural, until we took a left turn and descended a bit and then we were on a real farm, passing a tractor with a trailer laden with freshly harvested grapes

The views up were splendid

The actual accommodation was in here -not too shabby.

The rooms were very comfortable - way better than the Sheraton!

The place even had a pool, but we were not there for long enough, nor was it sufficiently warm, for us to enjoy it.

But I have left the best bit to last, a bit which Thibault didn't even see. Breakfast. Overnight there was a thunderstorm, but the morning was gloriously fresh and summery. And the hosts laid out breakfast on the terrace, individually served, with as much as you wanted. Including olive oil from the farm. It was divine. Honestly could have stayed there all day in the sun, reading and relaxing.

And for the dog lovers among you, they even had a couple of cute puppies running around.

Who could be fed titbits....

Sigh. But have to get back on the road - sights to see...
