Berlin Museum Island - Pergamonmuseum

I acquired a bargain 3-day ticket allowing the bearer to attend as many of Berlin's municipal museums as one wants within the period. SO there was a challenge for me to really get my money's worth.

The inevitable start point is Museum Island. An island in Berlin which contains the best of Berlin's great museums. While the buildings look old they are in large part relatively new, having been rebuilt since the War, which left them as shells and rubble. The collection of rather austere classical structures is is very impressive.

First off I headed for the Pergamumuseum. Its most famous exhibit is the Pergamom Altar. Normally. Unfortunately the museum is undergoing major renovations, and so the Altar, being a bloody great thing you can't easily loan out to another museum, is currently out of public sight.

So next best sight is the huge Ishtar Gate from Babylon. Indeed that two is being renovated, or at least cleaned, section by section. See the scaffolding below.

And third big set piece is a Roman one, the market gate and other bits of masonry from Miletus in Turkey.
