Berlner Dom

After 3 museums in a day, just time to fit in a church. Some church. Rather dominating Museum Island is the Berliner Dom - the grand imperial church of he Hollenzollern family. the remains of which are styill contained in grand sarcophagi down in the vault.

Actually museum island still has one more museum to come. The palace on the south side, having been totally demolished, is now being rebuilt. You see, berlin really hasn't finished being a building site.

But faced with a dome, and some steps, i can't resist going up them. About 260 to get to the viewing platform, fortunately with some breaks for little exhibitions on the way. A comparatively easy climb to make.

The Rathaus

Nikolaikirche

Alte Nationalgalerie

below is Fernsehturm, the old GDR television tower. A bit of an eyesore, unless you like old communist architecture. It is at least pretty striking. You can take the lift up for a view across the City - much higher than the Dome. But the catch as I found when I approached is that there is a sign saying that there would be a a one and a half hour wait after buying your ticket. I didn't fancy a 90 minute queue.

The vaults with their deceased royals.
