Spandau

One knows Spandau mostly from the prison where Hess was held for so many years at the behest of the Russians so they had an excuse for hanging around (now actually demolished) (or from the Eighties band I suppose) but the mains reason for coming here is the pretty suburban heart and the citadel.

What one might describe as the village of Spandau is very attractive. Its the equivalent of say Richmond in London.

The Citadel is to put it mildly, imposing. Big walls, a moat, this was  serious castle.

Going up the first tower offers great views.

Strangely, the castle was about to receive a heavy metal music concert
