Tiergarten

The hootest day of my stay, so I decided it would be a good idea to wander through the large central park/woodland that is the Tiergarten.

First I stopped off at the ruined church tower that I had only previously seen from the outside - Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtiniskirche. Only the base survives, not all the church. The 19th century mosaics are most impressive.

However, the atmosphere was just a little different because today was also the day of the Champions League Final, so Barcelona and Juventus fans were wandering into anything that was free in order to have their photos taken in front of it.

I passed by the zoo and aquarium, which has animals built into the brickwork.

This is a double bridge, one leading to the Tiergarten generally and then another one linking the extension of the zoo.

So into the gardens. Primarily one is talking woodland, but with paths through it and the odd statue. Plus some lakes. Picturesque.

If you think this tree has odd foliage, actually it has none at all. That white stuff is just spiders webs.

The Siegessaule

Within the Tiergarten is a landscaped English garden with a large English Tea Garden. At which I had afternoon tea with scones. Lovely.

Schloss Bellevue - very attractive, but the home of the President, so you can't gt very close.
