A wet Sunday in Seville

What do you do on a wet Sunday in Seville? Well find a museum I thought. Specifically the archaeological museum to see the various artefacts that had been dug out of Italica. Unfortunately the museum was at the other end of the centre of the city from my hotel, so a longish walk in the showers. But it allowed me to take in some of the more mundane but attractive features of the city - just the commercial buildings one passes which add to the ambience without being the sort of places you specifically go to visit.

I passed this pretty much every day. Its an advert for a studebaker touring car. A poster, but in tiles, making it pretty permanent. A nice advert which has rather outlived its product.

But the buildings on the mail streets are pretty impressive.

The library of the Indies has a very attractive exterior with a nice little clutch of statuary. More on this in a later visit. Wait for later instalment!

 Universidad. Its very wet.

As you can see, it was really wet. In front of Teatro Lope de Vega.

So eventually I get to where the museum should be but can't find it. So I went to the nearby tourist information office, being used as a temporary shelter from the rain for the few tourists wandering around, to ask for directions. Only to be told it was closed. Because of the rain. Yes a museum closed because its wet. In fact it wasn't specifically closed, but rather the museum was just inside the Parque  Maria Luisa. Yes a park closed because it was wet. Ok, you might question the wisdom of someone who wants to walk in a park in the rain, but surely you would give them the choice. Unsafe?

Ah well, down to the churches...If barbie ever wanted to do Barbie Madonna, well Seville would already have the copyright.

So I ended up at Metropol Parasol. Better known as the Mushrooms. they are dstinctive, and well worth a little jaunt up the lift for the views.
