Monasterio Isidoro del Campo

This monastery was a nice stop off on my trip to Italica. I took a local bus and a fellow passenger said he would tell me when to get off for the Monastery, or at least he managed to communicate that despite not speaking any English nor me any Spanish beyond "Monasterio".

Most visitors here came as coach loads of catholic tourists. Its an impressive place al
though in the process of restoration. Many of the frescos have been revealed but are only partly extant.

The frescos aren't all that sophisticated as artworks. The lion below for example seems to be having a good smile at the devotion to the crucifixion going on behind it.

Like anywhere in the modern world, one has to sweat one's assets. So while tourists were wandering round they were setting up for an evening corporate event around the courtyard. A striking place in which to entertain, or indeed have a wedding reception.
