Chelsea Flower Show

I took a friend to the Chelsea Flower Show, to which I was invited by another friend. We started the day with a very convivial brunch at a restaurant in Pimlico before moving on to the show itself.

So what to say about Chelsea? Well, very crowded. They couldn't really get any more punters in than they did. But the main impression I had was one of surprise. Over what is a quite small site there were just so many different garden related (albeit somewhat tenuously connected) things that I hadn't imagined. Ok, for most out there I would have to pick the white crocheted gorilla.

But there were just so many weird and wonderful things to look at. I will just let the pictures tell the story, but do note the amount of sculpture and architectural stuff as opposed to plant related. Its not cvery organic. But it is well worth a visit.

Yes, this is an upside down garden with the hanging plants reflected in a mirror below. Never thought of doing that?

Vikings everywhere this year - even a viking themed garden

You know you always wanted a band of metal frog musicians for the garden

And another gorilla. This year's animal

At this point in the proceedings the storm clouds finally let out the threatened downpour, so it was time for us to dive into the marquee which we had been skirting. This is where the real floral displays were to be found. And they were frankly amazing. See?

And then to top it all, a display of floral ballgowns. Ok, I wouldn't fancy your chances of dancing in them, and they might give your partner a serious bout of hay fever, but you would certainly get noticed in any of these.

 For Beatrix Potter fans...

 A display of inverted amaryllis

And  a Thai temple display for the ultimate in kitsch

Outside again for some weird ones.

And finally heading home past St Barnabas' on a sunny day. In the end.
