Enna

The hilltop town of Enna was the first stop on our tour of Sicily. I chose it as much as anything as being a convenient stop between Palermo airport, from which we had picked up the hire car, and Taormina, our first real destination. It was a convenient spot for lunch. What I hadn't quite taken into account was the topography. There were a lot of hairpin bends to navigate to get to the castle (and thereby, convenient parking). But what you do get with such a precipitous hilltop town is views!

And what you also get with almost every Sicilian town is a cathedral. So this was but the first of our trip. Mike had to endure many more!

The castle was sadly closed (although at best I think all you can visit are the courtyards), but we enjoyed a stroll around the very impressive fortifications

And of course the views
