Villa Romana del Casale

There is nothing quite like this villa, almost certainly built as a country retreat for a Roman emperor. It is enormous in size, and while there are some walls remaining to a decent height, what you really come for are all the mosaics. There are viewing platforms which allow one a decent view of them. There is excellent signage describing each room. The only downside is that this is very much on the coach party itinerary so you are shoulder top shoulder with elderly tour groups for much of the time. Even in mid October.
