Another Day at the 100 Club

Back from South Africa I was quickly back into my gigs. Did Antarctic Monkeys the day after I returned home. And then followed up with Another Day the next week at the 100 Club

First support were Room Service. Pleasant enough but nothing special

Next up were Safe at any Speed who seemed a rather more accomplished and striking group, especially the lead singer. Somewhat surprised to see him in woolly jumper and leather jacket. I mean cool look but he must have been boiling. Drummer similarly in a jumper. Maybe they had nowhere to change - it was cold outside but semi-tropical indoors

And then Another Day, again going for cool vibes over practicality, all starting out in leather jackets

Now performing with them although not part of the four piece group is this young man, Astile Doherty. He introduces the band, reads a bit of his poetry and is an enthusiastic percussionist. He adds a bit of oomph into the performance. He is also a charming young man to chat to as I have done a couple of times. But what may be of most interest to the reader is that his father is Pete Doherty of the Libertines and Babyshambles.

Another Day generally fit my taste in terms of genre, indie rock guitar band. The difficulty for such bands is to write songs that really stand out although I think they do have one in Merry-go-round. I like a few bands which happen to include brothers and this one features the Hillier brothers. As well as all you would expect from a band of this ilk, they are also proper gymnasts. Louis Hillier started the set with a back flip on stage, and half way through the two brothers urged the crowd at either side of the stage to make some space and proceeded to do back somersaults into the audience. In itself impressive, but it was a back somersault with twist!!! I doubt you will see that at any other gig!
