I will be honest, this was not one of the better gigs I have been to, but then it didn't seem sold out so maybe I should have been warned. I managed to get a great spot down at the front, and I do like the venue. There was nothing annoying about the audience. Mostly it was the support. I really do not know how they get chosen. Having seen so many great acts recently playing to tens of people who would love the exposure of a gig with a four figure audience I don't know how these two supports got picked.
First up was Ominous Moon, who from the name and the appearance just seemed like a parody of a metal act. I am not into metal so I can't really judge the quality of the music, but everything seemed ridiculous. Just these massive mounds of hair down to their chests, leather jackets open to the waist with guitars hanging out the bottom, growling vocals. When the lead singer bellowed "Are we ready to wake the dead?" I thought a suitable response might be "Yes but not before 9pm at weekends"
But then came on Bande a Part which made me yearn for the metal band. Utterly pretentious twaddle. And so, so boring. I mean I have heard worse bands in that they hurt ones ears with their playing, but this lot could play. They just turned out incredibly boring disjointed garbage. It did make me wonder if the Horrors picked supports so awful that they would look brilliant in contrast. If you ever see this lot on a bill, just don't go. Nothing was worth suffering this dirge. They truly sucked the atmosphere out of the place.
