Frankschhoek is a small town in the Cape wine district, but a town very much expanding because of its beautiful position surrounded by mountains and vineyards. Its a very very touristy place, but not a coach tripper tourist place. Its for independent tourists who want to enjoy good food and drink in a relaxed atmosphere.
In realty it only has one tourist attraction - the Huguenot Museum and monument. And a pleasant enough little church can be added at a pinch.
This is the Huguenot monument. Of course South Africa is well known for its Dutch as well as English settlors. And the Boer War between the,m. But there were also Huguenot settlers from France, commemorated here
As I say, it has a great and deserved reputation for quality food. There are lots of top notch restaurants, so I booked myself into one for an eleven course taster menu here at Le Coin Francais. It was very good indeed and at about £100 much cheaper than an equivalent in England.
